frequently asked questions about Holistic Pelvic Care™
What is holistic pelvic care?
Holistic Pelvic Care is a combination of physical and energetic tools developed by Tami Kent, M.S. Physical Therapy, based on her extensive experience as a women’s health physical therapist. Designed to assess and restore balance to the female pelvis, Holistic Pelvic Care is for women of all ages to address pelvic symptoms and/or enhance general wellness.
What can I expect in a session?
Your initial session will include a detailed intake where we’ll discuss your history and goals for treatment. Then, you’ll get a brief overview of the pelvic anatomy and explanation of the work. The pelvic evaluation will include external palpation, internal palpation, and pelvic mapping, making note of internal pelvic trigger points and tension patterns. The assessment is followed by treatment to balance the pelvis through such techniques as intravaginal massage with myofascial release and trigger point work as well as breathwork and visualization tools to assist core physical and energetic balance. Follow-up sessions begin with a brief re-assessment and then focus primarily on treatment. Each session ends with a review of pelvic self-care.
What effects will I notice after a session?
Many women describe an immediate feeling of a renewed sense of connection and awareness of their pelvic space. They also report feeling calm, centered and grounded. Energy and blood flow are increased to the pelvic bowl and many women report a decrease in overall symptoms and a strengthening of pelvic floor muscle engagement. Most women do a series of three to six sessions while practicing and gaining confidence in their self-care techniques.
The techniques are extremely gentle and the effects are profound.
This work is designed to restore physical and energetic imbalances which can sometimes bring up emotions stored deep in the body. It may be necessary for a referral to a trained counselor in which case, you will be referred to a trusted specialist. If you have a history of trauma, a current relationship with a counselor is highly recommended.
